Due to all the chemicals, toxins, and carcinogens, that our typical, store bought skin care products have in them, I started making my own natural products. I have quite a few DIY all natural sugar scrubs here at the Modern Southern Mother and have recently started with all natural DIY Face Cleansers. My first was, DIY Cucumber & Aloe Facial Scrub you can check it out here. This week I tried a new concoction of aloe, honey and cinnamon. It makes a fabulous, gentle, DIY Face Cleanser.

Like I said each product I make is made from all natural ingredients, that are usually already in my pantry. I use only things that I know won’t harm my skin. Still I always try a small amount before I apply liberally, everyone is different you never know how your skin will react to any product. This DIY Face Cleanser has some of the most potent organic ingredients to really clean deep down, while gently exfoliating, then leaving a protective barrier. Let’s talk about these 3 ingredients shall we…

100% Pure Honey

Honey has been used for centuries for it’s wound healing properties. It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-septic. Many it will kill most any bacteria or fungus that could lead to a breakout. Leaving your skin truly clean. It is a natural humectant, which draws moisture from the air into your skin. It also is filled with tons of antioxidants, that slow down the aging process by increasing tissue regeneration and decreasing the appearance of scars and lightening the skin. It also a natural anti-inflammatory, so it will reduce redness and puffiness.  This is a wonderful addition to your skin care routine.

Homegrown 100% Aloe Vera

This one really needs no introduction, but if by chance you don’t know how great Aloe is for you I’ll write this for you.Aloe Vera was called the “Plant of Immortality” by the ancient Eygptians, for very good reason. Aloe has been known to treat wounds, burns, and minor skin infections. It contains 75 different nutrients and antioxidants like beta carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E. It also contains 2 hormones, Auxin & Gibberellins, these provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Gibberellin acts as a growth hormone, stimulating the growth of new cells, which helps defy the aging process. Aloe acts as a protective layer on your skin, while replenishing moisture.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has been used by Asian cultures for hundreds of years by Asian cultures. Cinnamon is used to naturally exfoliate, which will stimulate blood vessels and bring blood back to the surface of the skin, unclog pores, and remove dead skin cells. The active ingredient, cinnamaldehyde, has been proven to increase the collagen levels, in turn plumping the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, and improving elastin in skin. It is also anitibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic.

Please know that I’m not saying this DIY face cleanser will do all that. I’m saying that this is why I chose these ingredients. These ingredients have the potential to do something amazing, naturally, for your skin. Please note to always test on a small area of the skin first, you never know how your skin will react to a new product. Also, I only use this 2-3 times a week, as a deeper clean than my usual, DIY Aloe Facial Scrub, because cinnamon is also known to be an irritant to some people, when used to often.
