Asian Chinese Lemon Chicken Recipe

Just like the Lemon Chicken from the Chinese Restaurant!!!

The Lemon Chicken at the Chinese restaurant has always been one of my favorites. It is the perfect blend of sweet and tangy. I recently decided to try to replicate this Asian dish, the results were Amazing!!! So of course I had to share with my fans here at The Modern Southern Mother, so that ya’ll can enjoy this Sweet, tangy,  Asian Lemon Chicken, too. It is an easy week night fix or the perfect dish to wow some friends and family. It only takes about 45 minutes cook and is sure to please the whole family.

Let’s get to it shall we….

Asian Lemon Chicken Recipe

Prep: 3-4 hrs marinating

10-15 min  actual prep time

Cook: 45 min



1-2 pds boneless skinless chicken breast

3/4 cup of flour

1/4 cup of cornstarch

2 cups of vegetable oil for frying

2 eggs

2 tablespoons of lemon pepper(optional

the juice from 2 lemons

the zest from 1/2 lemon

3/4 cup of white sugar

1/2 cup of water

2 teaspoons of soy sauce

1 teaspoon sesame seeds(optional)


About 3-4 hours before you intend to cook your chicken, take your chicken out and cut it up into bite size chunks. Then in order to get that full lemon flavor you are going to marinate the chicken in the juice from 1 of your lemons. I got an awesome flavor from 4 hours marinating, however if you don’t want a strong lemon flavor or you only have an hour, I’m sure that it will work just fine and taste good, it just won’t be as strong.

When you are ready to cook your chicken. Put your oil in the pan or wok whichever you have and heat it to about 350°. While it is heating take a bowl and mix your flour, cornstarch and lemon pepper in a medium sized bowl. Take another bowl and mix your eggs in it to batter your chicken. When the oil has reached temperature, batter your chicken by dipping it into the egg and then the flour, just one coat will work.

Fry your chicken bites for about 5 minutes,in batches, flipping once, until a light golden brown. Place them on napkins to soak up the remaining oil. Once you have about all your chicken fried, it’s time to start on your sauce.

To make the sauce you are going to go ahead and take the zest from 1/2 lemon, then the juice from that whole lemon. Your soy sauce, water, and sugar and mix them all in a small sauce pan, on medium high heat. Keep stirring your sauce while it heats. It will start to boil shortly. Continue stirring and let it boil for about a minute. Then turn it down to a simmer for about 3 minutes, the sauce will start to thicken at this point. Once it has started to thicken, remove your sauce from the heat. Take a skillet or wok, add your fried lemon chicken bites to the pan, then pour your sauce on top. Cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes. Until all chicken is coated and the sauce is thick and sticky. Top with sesame seeds and enjoy your Homemade Asian Lemon Chicken.
